Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization dedicated to transforming Chattanooga through the construction of simple, decent, affordable and safe homes in partnership with families in need.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, while individuals and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. The houses are sold to qualifying partner families at no profit and with no interest.
Partner families must have a need for housing, fall within income guidelines, and contribute hundreds of hours of labor – “sweat equity” – into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
As part of its ministry, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga operates the ReStore, a building materials store featuring building materials and some home goods, all at 50-80% off retail. Proceeds from the store are applied to the construction of more homes for people in need in our area.
