Thanks for your question - it is true that 67% (or close to 2/3) of our partner families are African American, but it is important to understand that Habitat home ownership is open to all on the basis of a verifiable need for affordable housing. Habitat is an empowerment program, not a handout. Our home buyers are chosen from those that apply (and who are able to meet our program requirements).

We posted this message in the hopes that it would draw attention to the fact that Habitat home ownership is an opportunity that is open to people of all backgrounds on the basis of need, regardless of race.

As I am writing this it is fair to say that there are many families of all races in our community who have not contacted Habitat because they think it is not for them!

If you are a low-income family struggling with high rent or dangerous living conditions I would encourage you to contact us to learn more about Habitat's programs. Don't miss an opportunity to transform your life and your families life. Habitat's program is not welfare, its not a hand out. It is about empowerment. We build homes for people all the time who never imagined they could be homeowners.
